Biography
Boris A. Katsnelson, born in 1926 (October 20) in Lugansk, Ukraina is the Head of Department of Toxicology and Biological Prophylaxis at the the Ekaterinburg Medical Research Center for Prophylaxis & Health Protection in Industrial Workers. He graduated from Сhelyabinsk State Medical College (Russia) in 1949 as a GP and received postgraduate training in occupational medicine in the same year at the Central Institute for the Postgraduate Medical Education (Moscow). During 1949 – 1954 he worked as an industrial sanitary inspector and occupational health specialist in different state agencies in Chelyabinsk. In 1954 - 1957 he received postgraduate scientific training (as a PhD student) in occupational medicine at the Moscow Institute of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. He recently worked in the Sverdlovsk Research Institute of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases later on reorganized into the Ekaterinburg Medical Research Center.
Research Interest
Boris A. Katsnelson's research interest includes silicosis; pulmonary particles and nanoparticles clearance and physiologically oriented modeling of the process; toxicology with special interest in combined toxicity & nanotoxicology; occupational exposure limits for fibrogenic and toxic substances; bioprotectors against adverse health effects of occupational/environmental toxic exposures; predisposition to occupational and environmentally conditioned diseases; socioeconomic aspects of occupational and environmental medicine; occupational & environmental epidemiology
